孔子與蘇格拉底的反諷：一種“超越比較”的研究

CONFUCIAN AND SOCRATIC IRONY “BEYOND COMPARISON”

摘要：

過去幾十年來，學(xué)者們主要關(guān)注的問題是如何在不依附于西方語匯和范式的情況下，如何用中國哲學(xué)自己的語言來論述中國哲學(xué)。這種關(guān)注往往被表述為對更熟悉的概念和論述的突破和重新思考。一些學(xué)者將這種雙重解釋態(tài)度描述為比較研究與“后比較”研究之間的相互依存關(guān)系。后比較研究并不排除比較，更是回應(yīng)在比較中運(yùn)作同時又超越比較的矛盾要求。在本演講中，我將以孔子與蘇格拉底的反諷作為案例進(jìn)行研究。首先，我將總結(jié)現(xiàn)有關(guān)于孔子和蘇格拉底的比較研究的要點(diǎn)，特別是反諷；其次，我將指出這些比較中重復(fù)出現(xiàn)的一些預(yù)設(shè)、根深蒂固的理解和陳詞濫調(diào)；最后，我會從后比較的角度討論孔子和蘇格拉底各自的反諷：將孔子的反諷和蘇格拉底的反諷作為固定的認(rèn)同性進(jìn)行比較，并不止于此，來探究這兩種認(rèn)同性的相遇如何使它們相互轉(zhuǎn)化并被重新定義。

Abstract:

During the past few decades a major concern among scholars is how to address Chinese philosophy in its own terms without any attachment to Western vocabularies and paradigms. This concern is often expressed as a breaking away from and re-thinking more familiar concepts and discourses. Some scholars have described this twofold interpretive attitude as the interdependence between comparative and “post-comparative” approaches. A post-comparative approach is one that does not preclude comparison, but responds to the paradoxical demand of operating within comparison while moving beyond it. In this presentation I will take the ironies of Confucius and Socrates as a case study. First, I will summarize the main points of existing comparative studies on Confucius and Socrates, with a particular focus on irony; second, I will identify some of the presuppositions, entrenched understandings, and clichés reproduced in such comparisons; finally, I will discuss the respective ironies of Confucius and Socrates from a post-comparative perspective: comparing Confucian irony and Socratic irony as fixed identities, I will move beyond comparison to see how the encounter of these two identities allows them to mutually transform and be re-defined.
